Oral History: Stephenson County, Illinois

Oral History: Stephenson County, Illinois

The Stephenson County Genealogical Society (SCGS), Freeport Public Library, Stephenson County Historical Society & Museum and Stephenson County Senior Resource Center are partnering with the Abraham Lincoln Public Library Oral History program to conduct a community oral history of Stephenson County, Illinois. Training for interviewers will begin August 16, 2018 and October 2018 will begin the oral history project with a county-partnership Bicentennial kick-off event. The Bicentennial is the impetus for this unique countywide history but it is the intention that interviews will continue beyond the bicentennial year.

Residents throughout the county will be recruited to participate in telling their stories of life in the county with inclusion of all disparate groups from city and rural communities. As this is an ongoing project, there is a strong underlying current of using this oral history as a means to connect these disparate groups through common ground of Stephenson County.
