Family Heirloom Recipes honoring the Illinois Bicentennial
Since 2009, Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance has sponsored a Family Heirloom Recipe Contest at the Illinois State Fair. For the IL-200, we plan to publish a book with all the recipes, their histories and pictures of food with interesting details like handwritten recipes.
Contestants entered their best scratch family heirloom recipe suitable for a family or community dinner. Recipe should originate 60 years or earlier. Contestants brought a prepared dish along with a history of who passed the recipe down to them, ethnicity, if relevant, number of years the recipe has been in their family and any interesting information about their recipe. JUDGING CRITERIA: History: 50%, Execution/Taste: 40%, Display/Appearance: 10%
