What

This Illinois Bicentennial event is perfect for adults and children alike. It will be hosted by the Illinois Daughters of the American Revolution Fort Dearborn Chapter of Evanston which was organized in 1894 (with a co-sponsorship by the Skokie Valley Chapter). The program, “Happy Illinois Bicentennial Birthday Bash, 1818-2018”, will be presented by actor Terry Lynch of Histories For Kids. This professional program will encompass the early years of Illinois historical happenings as well as some famous Illinoisans.

The setting of this historical program is the Evanston History Center (EHC) at the home of United States Vice President and Brigadier General Charles Gates Dawes and his wife Caro Blymyer Dawes. The Dawes are considered to be one of the most patriotic families in Evanston. The Dawes’ Revolutionary War ancestor, William Dawes, road simultaneously with Paul Revere on that famous midnight ride. The Dawes house is on the National Register of Historic Places, was bequeathed to Northwestern University and, more recently, became exclusively owned and operated by the EHC.
