By reaching out and promoting Chinese culture to so many people, the festival has greatly contributed to cross-cultural engagement within the community. This event is sponsored by the City of Naperville’s SECA fund. The Honorary Chairman of the 2018 Lantern Festival will be ABC-7’s Judy Hsu. The guests of honor attending this year’s event include: The Mayor of Naperville, the Honorable Steve Chirico; and the Illinois Secretary of State, the Honorable Jesse White.

The Spring Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival which marks the end of the
celebration of the Lunar New Year. This festival started during the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 221 AD) in China, and it later spread to the other Asian nations that used the lunar year calendar. The festival has a long and prestigious history. It is steeped in tradition and reflects the grace, beauty, and art of Chinese culture. It is also an event that the whole community is sure to enjoy together. As with each year, the Lantern Festival is built on a collaborative effort of local and international artists. For 2018, in addition to the dancers of Xilin Art Academy, the event will host professional singers and dancers from China, Shaolin Kung-fu, and other local performing artists join us to celebrate the new year. The performance showcase of the Lantern Festival consists of a collaboration of local and international artists. We will also have a games and activities segment before the show to better engage the entire community in the unique arts and crafts of the East.
Overall, we anticipate over 1,000 people will attend this event. The Lantern Festival promises to be an extraordinary event, bringing community members of all backgrounds together for an unforgettable, unique, multi-cultural experience.
