What

The Illinois Association of Park Districts’ Parks Day at the Capitol is an unique opportunity for Illinois park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies to showcase their programs, services, natural areas and facilities to legislators, legislative staff, government employees and State Capitol visitors. This year’s theme is ‘Discover the Power of Parks – A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence,’ which ties into IAPD’s 90th Anniversary and Illinois’ Bicentennial. Exhibiting agencies are encouraged to showcase the history of their organizations and the growth that has taken place since their beginnings in terms of land acquired, number of parks, essential services provided to their citizens, etc. – and compare that to other important happenings throughout Illinois’ history. Exhibits will include literature, giveaways and/or hands-on activities for attendees. IAPD’s Legislative Conference follows on Wednesday, with more than 350 attendees receiving timely information on the association’s legislative advocacy program and all pending legislation affecting IAPD’s membership. We will also be presenting historical information in conjunction with IAPD’s 90th Anniversary, and we invite someone from the Illinois Bicentennial leadership to speak at the conference to inform the attending park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies about how they can get involved with the Illinois Bicentennial and host endorsed events.
