Echos of Yesteryear: Walk Through Oak Ridge Cemetery Walk

Sunday, October 14, 2018

Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1440 Monument Avenue, Springfield, IL, Illinois

12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The event will feature seven historical individuals being portrayed by costumed actors at their grave sites in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The actors will tell the individuals’ stories about living in Sangamon County at or near the time that Illinois statehood was granted. Some were here in the 1818-1820 time period. The actors’ scripts are carefully researched by historians. Costumes depict the type of clothing worn in that time period. These historic individuals include Moses Broadwell, founder of Broadwell Inn near Pleasant Plains, which is now Clayville Historic site; John Kelly, first settler of Sangamon County; John Todd Stuart, first law partner of Abraham Lincoln and cousin of Mary Todd Lincoln; and several others. All ages are welcome.
