Czech Centennial Gala Chicago

Friday, September 28, 2018

Union League Club of Chicago, 65 Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60604, Chicago, Illinois

6:00 pm - 12:00 pm

Chicago and the Midwest have been the traditional center of Czech immigration to the US since the 1850s. Czechoslovakia would have probably not come into existence were it not for Charles Crane, Czech-Americans and other friends from this part of the world. Their help to Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and Edvard Beneš, the first two Czechoslovak presidents and University of Chicago professors was of key importance. The Czech Centennial Gala will commemorate fascinating stories associated with the creation of the modern Czech statehood as well as its recreation after the World War II. Honored guests will include representatives of families and institutions who deserve our major thanks. The event will feature a special historic presentation, star music performances and an art exhibition. The featured artists Alphonse Mucha, Albín Polášek and Vojtěch Preissig had strong Chicago connections and made a difference both as great artists as well as Czech patriots.

Cost of Admission: $175 USD
