150th Anniversary – The Election of U.S. Grant, 1868

Saturday, November 03, 2018 - Sunday, November 04, 2018

U.S. Grant State Historic Sites, 500 Bouthillier Street, Galena, Illinois

9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Volunteer costumed interpreters will be re-creating the day/night – November 3, 1868, in Galena, Illinois – that Galena resident Ulysses S. Grant was elected the 18th President of the United States. Events will take place at several locations throughout Galena. Events such as, authentic voting, re-creating the moment Ulysses Grant found out he was elected, and friends and well-wishers gathering at his home to congratulate the Grant family. Just like 150 years ago, a band will play and (if the fundraising is successful) fireworks will be displayed to celebrate the moment. Depending on fundraising and the number of participants that sign up, there is a possibility of a parade, along Main Street, in down town Galena, on Sunday morning, to complete the weekend.

Cost of Admission: $Donation only
